Hackathon video and photo coverage in Istanbul runs differently from a one-day conference shoot. Hackathons stretch across one or two full days and a night, with long stretches of quiet building work broken up by short bursts of high energy: kickoff, mentor rounds, the final demo and judging. This page explains how we plan coverage across that kind of schedule.

The four phases of a hackathon shoot
- Kickoff: opening speeches, rules briefing, team formation, wide shots of the full room
- Build phase: short check-ins rather than continuous filming, capturing team dynamics, whiteboards, mentor sessions, late-night energy
- Demo day: each team’s pitch filmed cleanly with slide capture, similar to a conference talk but on a tighter time limit
- Judging and awards: winner announcement, judge reactions, team celebration
Continuous filming through a 30 hour build phase wastes crew time and produces hours of unusable footage. We schedule short visits every few hours instead, timed around meals, mentor rounds and any scheduled announcements, and keep the crew fresh for the demo day, which is where most of the usable content actually comes from.
Filming developer interviews

Short interviews with team leads during the build phase, usually two to three minutes, work well as supporting content for the recap video. They are best scheduled rather than grabbed at random, since developers mid-build are reluctant to stop for a camera without notice.
Demo day: filming the pitch
Each team gets a fixed time slot, often three to five minutes, which makes demo day easy to plan around: two cameras on the presenter, a clean feed of the slides or live demo screen, and a wide shot of the room for reaction cutaways. This produces a usable clip per team, not just a full unedited recording nobody watches back.
Deliverables for a hackathon
- A highlight film covering the full event arc, from kickoff to awards
- Individual demo clips per team, useful for teams to reuse in their own portfolios
- Edited photography from build phase, demo day and awards
- Short developer interview clips
This overlaps with our wider crypto event media production service, and demo day filming specifically is covered in more depth on our demo day and pitch session video production page.
